Global EM Faculty

Dr. Valenzuela completed medical school at Tufts University, and trained at Rutgers University Hospital in Newark, NJ. He completed a fellowship in Global Emergency Medicine at LA County+USC Medical Center. He then completed a Fulbright research fellowship in Santiago, Chile focused on regionalized trauma care. He ran a successful Global Emergency Medicine fellowship at Stony Brook University for 7 years prior to joining the faculty at Jackson Memorial Hospital. The newly founded Division of Global Emergency Medicine is focused on coordinating inter and intra-departmental collaborations, creating international academic agreements and relationships, and coordinating development projects throughtout Latin America and the Caribbean. He is interested in trauma systems development, prehospital systems development, and ultrasound education.

Dr. Rivera Camacho trained in Ponce, Puerto Rico, and completed a fellowship in Global Emergency Medicine and Ultrasound at Carolinas Medical Center. She then joined the faculty at Jackson Memorial Hospital. She has had prior experience with Ultrasound education and global Emergency Medicine development projects throughout Latin America.

Affiliated Global EM Faculty

Dr. Matthew Pyle completed medical school at St. George's University, and residency at New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. He completed his Ultrasound fellowship at George Washington University before joining the faculty at Jackson Memorial Hospital. He is the Ultrasound Director and fellowship director at Jackson, and has worked in  Global Emergency Medicine projects in India, Africa, and the Caribbean.

Dr. Julie Valenzuela completed medical school at Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine, and finished her surgical training at Rutgers University Hospital in Newark. She completed a fellowship in Trauma Surgery & Critical Care at Vanderbilt, and worked at Northwell Hospital in Long Island, as well as Jamai Hospital in Queens, NY before joining the faculty at Ryder Trauma. She has joined the Division of Gloval Emergency Medicine in various Development projects lecturing in Trauma and Critical care throughout Latin America & the Caribbean.
