Fellowship in Global Emergency Medicine

Welcome to the Division of Global Emergency Medicine at Jackson Memorial Hospital & University of Miami. Jackson Memorial Hospital is a quaternary care center and the safety net hospital for Miami-Dade County and supports a 3 year ACGME accredited residency. Our location in a sub-tropical climate and the massive movements of people through immigration and tourism, as well as our catchment area of a large portion of the western Caribbean means that our clinical experience is unparalleled in the region.

We offer a one or two year Fellowship in Global Emergency Medicine, depending on the applicant's interests and prior qualifications. For applicants who have completed a prior fellowship, we offer a one year fellowship which combines studies for a Diploma in Tropical Medicine & Hygiene with field work. This allows the fellow a guided opportunity to integrate their prior training with Global Emergency Medicine in their area of interest. For applicants who are interested in a two-year fellowship we offer a Global Emergency Medicine fellowship in combination with the Division of Ultrasound, Medical Education, or Critical Care (through separate application process). Fellows complete their DTMH in conjunction with their Global EM and other fellowship training. The two-year option supports 5 months of field-work.

While at Jackson, fellows are considered core faculty, and responsible for resident education and evaluation. Fellows are encouraged to work on education, lecturing, and teaching skills. During their time they are expected to submit lectures to national and international conferences, and complete 1 peer-reviewed academic publication per year.
